AR VISUAL LISTENING GUIDE

for orchestras

Symphony Graphique is very pleased to now offer an innovative enhancement to the Visual Listening Guide—augmented reality!

With an app powered by Immersive Publishing Ltd, any Visual Listening Guide can be brought to life with music excerpts and other digital content, including text panels, videos, spoken audio, and image galleries, launching onto the screen of a smartphone or tablet.

As an enhancement to the printed Visual Listening Guide, which can be used during a concert, the AR app enables music lovers to get more out of the Guide beyond the concert hall, by furthering active listening of a piece of music. Through the app, audio clips of the main musical themes and motifs are launched, thereby highlighting, revealing, and clarifying what these sound like within the work’s structure. Listeners can thus better grasp the appearances and development of these themes when they experience the piece as a whole. Other digital content can be added to illuminate historical context, performance practice, perspectives from musicians…and so on, acting like annotations to the printed Guide.

Orchestras are encouraged to use their own recordings for the audio clips, as well as their own digital content. There’s no limit to the amount of content that can be added to the printed Guide, and media clips can be as long or as short as required. The user doesn’t have to constantly hold the smart device over the page; once the content is launched they can sit back and enjoy it. The app can also be customized with the orchestra’s visual branding, thereby giving their audiences a bespoke and beautifully curated multi-media experience.

The Visual Listening Guide is already a highly effective engagement tool, helping to develop audience appreciation for symphonic music and for the orchestras that perform it. With augmented reality content, the Guide empowers orchestras to connect even more directly and deeply with their audiences.

How it works

In partnership with Symphony Graphique, Immersive Publishing Ltd will work with orchestras and recording companies to ensure permission and related copyrights are covered, to create this unique experience.
